Olivia is not your typical teenager. For one thing, Olivia is adopted. For another, Olivia is more at home in the kitchen than anywhere else. Olivia has been helping at FOOD, her dad Bell's restaurant for years now, but as money is becoming tight, she needs a paying job. Olivia meets a psychic on her way to a job interview, kicking off an entire summer of change. Full of food, love, and the search for a birth parent, Olivia's story uncovers the true meaning of family.

Opinion:

This book comes alive from the pages. It captures the absolute best of our humanity. Olivia seems so real. She isn't perfect, but she's so full of hope and possibility that it seems there is nowhere to go but up. Olivia's journey sucks you in and you find yourself looking for the secret ingredient as hard as Olivia is. Around every corner is a surprise that brings you one step closer to your prize; life's secret ingredient. I would recommend this book to any young adult reader, but especially to those with an interest in food.

Explain your content rating:

Olivia's fathers are homosexual. Since her family is a huge part of the book, I would not recommend reading this if that makes you uncomfortable. There is also a sex scene in the book.
