Whether you are an advanced or beginning knitter, “Super Scary Mochimochi” by Anna Hrachovec is right for you. In the first half of the book, the author shows you how to use double-pointed needles, stuffing and closing up your handmade creatures, loads of different stitching techniques, and much more. Second, there are 15 patterns in which you will learn different types of skills, while knitting up cute and quirky creatures. My absolute favorite part is the last section, where you get to use the methods you’ve learned and get creative by making your own custom monsters. The author provides you with patterns for all shapes, plus monster arms, legs, ears, and tails, where you can mix and match to make an original toy like no other. If you don’t know what something means, then you can look it up in the back, where the author enlightens you on all the knitting terms and abbreviations used in the book.

Opinion:

As one who doesn’t always like to follow patterns and gets highly frustrated when I don’t understand something, I found the author’s notes to be helpful. By breaking down the patterns into sections, she made knitting less difficult and stress free. The patterns go by somewhat quickly, which I liked, and I think is quite good for all the impatient knitters out there. In my opinion, a few of the creature designs are not entirely cute, so this is one of the reasons why I enjoyed the “mix and match monsters” section, where I was able to practice certain techniques and design the toy specifically how I wanted. Anna Hrachovec makes knitting simple and easy to comprehend.
