Paper Things is a story about a 11 year old girl named Arianna, or 'Ari' who's mother passed away 4 years ago. She lives with her guardian, Jenna, and her 18 year old brother, Gage. Before her mother died her final wish was for Ari to get into Carter, a middle school for gifted students, and that Ari and Gage stay together always. Gage is tired of living with his guardian, Jenna, and decides to move out. Ari believes she must go with him. But instead of having an apartment like he said, Gage has lied, they are living off his girlfriend and friends. Now with all this jumping around, Ari must somehow balance not only being homeless but focus on her school work, her friends, and the low possibilities of getting into Carter.

Opinion:

Paper Things was a very heart felt book. There was not much I didn't like about it. From the writing style to the story itself, it was enjoyable. The characters are built up to show how they have grown and others are able to empathize with some of the characters. But it's not just the characters, the story shows how struggling it is to be homeless and how they are treated by the people around them.

One thing I didn't like about it was how I couldn't identify with the school since I've never been to a school where one needed to have a leadership role.

I would defiantly recommend this story to others for how it gives insight to the hardships of being homeless.
