The Obsidian Pebble is a book about 11 year old Oscar Chambers (Oz) and his mysterious adventures. Oz has two best friends named Ellie and Ruff. On Halloween, his friends are sleeping over at his house, which is rumored to be haunted. When they hear ghostly footsteps, they investigate. They find nothing, but this doesn't stop them. They want to dig deeper, hoping to find something they overlooked. Oz convinces his mom to unlock his late dad's old study so they can continue their search. What Oz finds in the study suddenly throws him and his friends into mystery and danger. Can they find the owner of those footsteps? Can Oz find out what happened to his dad the day he died in a car crash? Is his house truly haunted? Find out in this witty, mysterious book.

Opinion:

Rhys A. Jones did a wonderful job on The Obsidian Pebble. The book was well written and very believable.  The characters were realistic. For example, Oz hates math, but would rather do double math for a year than move from his house. The author is British, so a small word list was included for translating words like 'hoovering', and 'chemist shop.' This story uses an 11 year old perspective, which made me feel like I was a part of the story. This book was so good that I am highly anticipating book two. It was an unforgettable experience. I would recommend this book for kids who love mysteries and humor.
