Amy is starting her freshman year of high school and it looks bleak, until she meets Cat. Cat has just moved there and they meet at the new library. Together, their confidence skyrockets as they walk through the front doors. Soon after, Cat reports her brother Ricky acts weird around Amy. Cat thinks Ricky likes Amy. But Amy isn’t so sure she can like him back.

Elsewhere, just after Amy is finished setting up an art exhibit for her new found friend, Finn, who is also the lighthouse keeper, he is accused of arson. To make matters even more confusing Amy gets asked to the dance by both her crushes. Ricky asks her first, so she should go with him right? Or should she go with Craig her old crush and friend? Or will she just go with Cat? How will she chose?

Opinion:

I really liked this book. I usually read fantasy so this was a new experience for me, but I learned that fantasy isn’t the only genre I like. One of my favorite parts is when Pup comes back to say hi because It sounds like my dog when she runs away but then (minutes or hours later) we find her standing on the front porch ready to come in. I also liked that Finn was an artist because I am one as well. However, I disliked that some of the kids smoked but I also feel as if it was necessary to keep the story going. All in all I would recommend this to middle school students, summer book lists, people who like historical fiction and people who like Beholding Bee by Kimberly Newton Fusco and Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundel.
